Saw the Hunger Games in theaters today and let me tell you it was riveting. May be one of the best I've watched in a while.
In a Capitol nation called Panem, there are twelve districts. Each year, the Capitol sends one boy and one girl from each district between the ages of 12 and 18 to fight in the Hunger Games, which, literally, is a death game. The last one alive is the winner.
While watching the movie, several ideas came up to mind. The concept that everyone in Panem could watch the Hunger Games is very much similar to George Orwell's prediction of the telescreen, and Big Brother in his dystopian novel 1984. Furthermore, the beginning of the movie kind of reminded me of Shirley Jackson's short story The Lottery. It's real interesting... just pointing it out.
But overall, I think what Collins is trying to say in this movie is to warn us--meaning the world-- to not let things go too over the top and engineer such abhorred and violent games, events, and the like, for it would only cause a long-term commotion amongst the population.
I got the book a few days ago, but now that I've already watched it, reading it won't be as exciting :(
Whatevs, though. It'll still be worth reading don't y'all think?

L'arc~en~Ciel
L'arc~en~Ciel!
Tonight I saw L'arc~en~Ciel perform. They were beast!! Hyde's voice is awesomely awesome, fans went nuts, and the overall mood was rockin'. The rest of the members, Tetsu, Yukihiro, and Ken were also great and performed well. L'arc~en~Ciel is the first ever Japanese based band to ever perform at the world's famous arena. It took them 20 full years to perform there, and it was splendid.

Maeda Atsuko graduates from AKB48
前田敦子AKB48を卒業するってきいたが。。。
まぁ、俺はどうでもいいんだ。かってにしなって感じだ。けどファンがショックになってるだろう。。それでも自分が決めたことやからな。
So yeah, I heard that Maeda Atsuko announced that she will graduate from AKB48. What do I think? Well, it's a huge shocker for the fans, but I say, really, big deal. She decided that to herself and it was about time that she would separate from the group that sings in unison. Being a member of AKB48 has so many limitations. One being the fact that the members always have to stay together, disallowing the freedom for every girl. I guess that's why many have went solo temporarily and released singles like Itano Tomomi and Maeda Atsuko herself. Maeda may have realized finally that being independent--going solo-- will be much better for her. I mean, now she can get a boyfriend. But aside from all that, she will be missed from AKB48. At this point, she is arguably the face of the idol group, and seeing her announce her leave in front of the fans at the Saitama Super Arena is quite a shocker for them. And admittedly, yes, it does leave quite a scratch on me because I used to listen to some albums. But her graduation is for the good, at least. The question is just when she is going to graduate. With events coming up, she may attend them and eventually change her mind. Who knows.

high 81 today
Wow, today's high is 81 degrees. Summertime, and the living is easy pretty hard actually. This weather does undoubtedly make me think of that time of season. Anyone wanna play some catch?

One Year Later
A year has passed since the devastating earthquake/tsunami had struck the Tohoku region of Japan. Let us all pray for those who have lost their lives, and may hope lay upon each and every surviving individual.
To mark its first anniversary, show your support by wearing any Japan t-shirt, pin, scarf, anything that might show your love towards the victims. Listen to a Japanese song, treat yourself to a Japanese dish, dedicate a part of your day for Japan for you will help yourself, and most importantly others abroad.
東北に起こった地震。あれから1年すぎました。家や恋人や家族が全部世界から消えてしまった人達の為に、そして死んだ人達にも、祈りをしましょう。これからも前を向いて、明るい未来を期待する事。

Madama Butterfly
Yesterday I went to see Puccini's Madama Butterfly.
Such a romantic, yet sad story about love, hate, and remorse. A great opera. Beautiful theater.
