Post Christmas Shopping

Today I went for a little shopping. The snow is still around the sidewalks; take a gander.
Oh and look. A Justin Bieber doll. How ridiculous.

Snowstorm aftermath

The snowstorm has indeed abated, but its remnant winds still rapidly blows across the east coast. I can hear the "whoooo" noise the wind makes, as it flurries the snow to create the "snow smoke" effect. Icicles breaking atop buildings, slippery roads, residents shoveling their cars and other properties, and a load more unpleasantness. The 20 inch deep snow, although, could be useful for sledding and having some fun. But again, the chilly weather may refrain several residents from going outside. A true unanticipated snowstorm this has been.

The most challenging week is about to arrive in about 20 minutes. Yea, I said the most "hectic week" was about to start on the previous post, but this next week is going to be even more. This past week was hectic because it was preparation for this next week. Well, this is the last week before winter vacation so it makes sense. An exam on Tuesday, with three exams on the next day with a concert in the evening of that same day. A halfway research paper due on Thursday, and I have to present some stuff on Friday. Big week, but once that's all done, freedom.

Dreaming my dream

A very interesting things happened last night while I was sleeping. In the dream that happened while I was sort of awake, two animated things popped up into my head. And those two objects happened to be a: Lion and an Automobile. These two objects really surprised me by the way they relate to each other and make up something I've been thinking about a long time. I'm not telling y'all what exactly surprised me, but it has something to do with the letters.

The birth of the hectic weeks.

A whole new worl... No... A whole new week is about to start in an hour. Not only is it a whole new week, but it's a whole new hectic week. Numerous work/projects/events are starting in the next week. From Violin rehearsals to History research papers, the list goes on. Tomorrow there's a fresh History quiz first thing in the morning. Great. But it's a quiz. What could go wrong... (my classmates are freakin' out). Part of it is to memorize Abraham Lincoln's First Inaugural Address. But only the last paragraph. Here, lemme type it out so it can help me out:
I am loathe to close. We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battlefield and patriot grave to every living heart and heartstone all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.

Here, by the way, is the Rockefeller Center's Christmas tree! It finally lit last week!

4 day weekend/Matt Damon comes to our school

Today was an awkward day for me, personally. It must've not been my day today. I first shattered my mirror, then I dropped all the onigiri at a bakery shop, I dropped the chapsticks at Duane Reade, and finally dropped my remote controller when I arrived home. I'm an idiot for sure. It's not my day today. But before all this happened, when I was at school (it was a half day today), it was Harvest Festival, a festival where the entire school gathers together to celebrate Thanksgiving and better understand our yearly theme. This year, our theme is Water.
Matt Damon was gladly willing to discuss about his various trips, namely India and Ethiopia and explained how water was horribly treated over there. It is our duty to only use water when we really need to. Never take more than 30 minute showers, for it will harm the environment, and eventually the world. Remember, "we are the world", as Jackson said.

This Naruto volume 53 is by far the best volume in Naruto. Why? Because it tells a brief history in how Naruto was born in the perspective of his parents. A very different approach, but very interesting.

Talent Show!

The talent show was today. Several students performed their many hidden talents to the whole upper school. There were magicians, artists (music), and surprisingly a lot of martial artists. Some performed a form with their staff while some showed some karate demonstrations. I, however, did not get to perform since there was no time, but will get a chance someday. It'll be great.

How to avoid blanking out in tests

Ever wondered how to just ace a test so easily without any struggles and unwanted dilemmas? Trust me, it's not as hard as you think. But before you even think about acing a test, there is just one thing that you HAVE to be sure that you've done: studied relatively and wisely.

Acing a test requires distinct and a mastered knowledge of whatever subject you are sure to take a test on. Without the knowledge, you wouldn't go as far as you would expect. But let's not think about that, since all of you readers obviously know that studying is the basic strategy and the first step to ace a test. It's rather how you implement it.

Let's go on to say that without the correct implementations of your knowledge, it's like you've learned nothing at all. For instance, let's say that you've nervously sat down on your seat, grabbed those number two pencils while sweating profusely. Seconds later, the teacher comes over to you and gives you the test. You sit down just gazing at the first page, looking frozen like a chess master who just got caught in a unexpected stalemate. Your first reaction (as well as the chess master) would be "Oh my god. What the fu**", right? I'm sure. To avoid these concerns, it is best to take my own advice and take consideration to close your eyes and just meditate... no really. While you're meditating, synthesize all of the material that you've studied and say to yourself, "I can do it". NEVER be pessimistic.

Furthermore, saying "I can do it" really pushes you to picture the material that you've been studying and you will soon be like "Oh, oh yeah! Now I know!". The only reason why you tend to sometimes blank out is because your mind is just quickly shocked that your own mind is the only reference to succession; that you have nothing to look for reference, sources, or ideas but yourself. Your mind just has a quick flash of surprise, but you still have the potential to implement your own knowledge into the test. Why?

Picture your living room with your lamp on. Suddenly it short circuits and turns off, and you can't see anything but pitch black darkness. Your mind is surprised, but seconds later you'd just go like, "Oh, it's just the light". You'd eventually find another light bulb to fix the problem. Same thing on tests. You get a test that look as if it's in another language. But if you close your eyes and regain all that information that you've been studying--- the solution, then you'll be able to go like, "Oh, it's just about this stuff" and find the solution and fix the problem. Another example: Your mom suddenly walks into your room without you knowing. You first reaction would be "what the hell?" (who knows what you were doing in there) and you'd just be shocked. But seconds later, here you are saying "Oh, it's just her" and eventually tell her to (nicely) leave. It's the way of adjusting wisely.

Don't be pessimistic like I mentioned earlier. When you received the test and all you do is say "I can't do it!!!", you're simply putting yourself into a zone in which nothing will happen unless you do something. You're simply giving up everything that you've learned. It's all about you. You vs. Yourself. Think about the situation about the lamp. If the lamp suddenly turns off, and you're by yourself, and do nothing to solve the solution, the room is going to remain pitch black. In other words, nothing will happen unless you change it. So get another light bulb. For the mom situation, if you do not ask her to leave, then she'll remain in your room for a little while longer, which you don't want I'm sure according to most average teenagers. You have the potential since you've studied. But being pessimistic utterly melts down your knowledge and brings it into a situation in which it falls into the abyss.

Once you've synthesized all the above information I have given you, you will be able to shine (pun possibly intended) and gain all the knowledge you need and soon write with relative ease, like a reflecting river that flows gracefully.

Bio Class

Bio class was... let's just say interesting. Pig dissection, day 1. As a class, we took out our pigs from the fridge and placed them on a tray as we observed its external characteristics. Luckily, we didn't dissect them yet. Boy am I excited.

Knicks and the New York City Marathon

Knicks game today, but lost again the Sixers. My height compared to the pros.
Cheered on the runners at the Marathon. So many brave runners out there willing to give out all they've got. Runners all over the world including France, Italy, Japan, Taiwan, you name it! My mom said "gambare!" (do your best in Japanese) to several Japanese runners, and most of them smiled. Ahh greatness.

NYC Marathon preview

I feel like my body's weak. Every five minutes, I have the urge to blow my nose. I felt like I had a cold last week. I got better, but felt like I got a cold again. What the hell.

Tomorrow is the NYC Marathon (technically today). Thousands of competitive runners gather along to run 26 miles across the five boroughs of the city. These runners have trained diligently to best focus on their goal: to finish strongly along with self-pride. Certain celebrities/public figures also are up for the challenge, namely the Chilean miner who was rescued just recently. Marathon officials invited Edison Pena, the Chilean miner, to observe the marathon or host the finish line tape, but they never expected him to race. Recent reporters have stated that Pena trained, running at least three miles when he was trapped underground in the mines while listening to Elvis Presley on his ipod. His eagerness and the strength he shows is an honor to the Marathon community.

Semi-Fever and Talent Show

I feel sick. Since yesterday, I wasn't feeling to well. My throat was slightly bothering me... but today, I started to get a runny nose. I'm not too sure if it's a fever since the symptoms don't quite seem like it. It's just the autumn allergies I guess. Also because the temperature drastically changed from the 70's to the low 30's. It's freakin' freezing in my house. The cold breeze outside leaks from the radiator's vents, eventually seeping into the house. At least the heater works. I hate when I get a runny nose. You repeatedly have to use so many tissues that you feel like you're just wasting them. Also because when you have a stuffed up nose, you can't taste anymore because those darn watery boogers blocks the receptor cells/sites of your nose.

The school talent show is nigh. One of the leaders of the organizers suggested that I should show the school some aero kicks, breaking boards. I would love to, but the problem is... There's not really a chance to get some boards, and I might be a little rusty. HMMMM. This is a thing that I would need to deeply consider about. Help me y'all! I need to think of a solution by Tuesday the latest.

darn school

School resumes tomorrow. I'm so bummed. It sucks having school. I already know that I'm gonna get a load amount of homework tomorrow. I know it. Damn it.

It's cold. The temperature drastically changed. From the 70's to the high 30's. Hold your horses, winter! It ain't the time to get cold yet! The candy I bought on Saturday is almost gone. Bleh.

The Book of Five Rings and more

I Went to the museum of New York City and observed most of the exhibits such as women's clothing in the 20th century, forming of the five boroughs, and mainly Japanese Samurai who visited New York in 1860, creating the Japanese Delegation. In the gift shop, I purchased The Book of Five Rings. It's one of the most famous written works in the 17th century by a master swordsman named Miyamoto Musashi who talks about his tactics and strategies of martial arts in a philosophical way.

I continued on to capture Rockefeller Center. The ice rink is all set ready to go, but nobody was skatin' yet.

After, I got too hungry that I needed to eat somewhere. Applebee's was nearest so I went there. Ordered a burger and it was ok. Not the bEST but acceptable. The waitresses were hot, but the food was eh, alright.

Candy land time!

Transcendentalism

You know how almost every student hates English class? For some strange reason, I've gained interest, especially because we're currently focusing on a specific topic in which I find intriguing. Transcendentalism-- that is, becoming one with nature by crossing limiting boundaries, diving into different parameters and dimensions. What did he just say?

It's a topic in which I've related to in my past creative writing pieces. I never knew I did, but transcendentalism seems to be the main idea of my pieces. For instance, one writing I wrote about before we even studied transcendentalism was an old man who became "one with nature" by only focusing on the outside world, rather than his family. Clearly, I've known this topic before. I just didn't know what it was called. Until now. And it surprises me. I feel like I've found the right key to the door; the matching "piece" to the puzzle of just studying the topic that I've written before in mostly all of my pieces. So I can finally say that so far, my creative writings mostly focus on transcendentalism.

There's even some examples today. For instance, Kid Cudi's Man on the Moon album. It talks about how he is able to reach a different world by going through personal reveries, eventually going up, up, and away.

El Gimnasio: El projecto de Espanol.

In Spanish, the assignment was to make a movie that contains the appropriate usage of the past tense-- along with several verbs and vocabulary. As a group (5 of us), have completed it and plan to showcase it tomorrow. It's about a girl who becomes attracted to a trainer in an advertisement and meets the trainer. There is no specific plot after that. It's just a film that can be watched and laughed about. It's pretty funny, as usual. The film is so well edited that it deserves to win an Oscar. Nah, just joking. But really, it's a classic. Here's a snippet pic from a scene.

Seagulls

Seagulls were flying low towards me today prior to the start of the cross country race. My coach said that it brings good luck. Indeed it did. The top 28 runners gets a medal and I came in 28th place. How lucky. Thanks, Seagulls.

Hacky Sack

Clubs in school are meant to engage us all into a closer community. It's an opportunity to break those high school cliques, meet new friends and just have a fun time while sharing our interests. Clubs, furthermore, are open to anyone in the community and meant to be enjoyable for all. Now, hacky sack club, a fun way to get the students rollin', can indeed be a club... right? The director of the upper school, however, stated that it's an outside sport. Hacky sack might be an active mini sport, but it's still meant to played indoors. Hacky sack is just a mini soccer ball. How can it be an outside sport? With the director stealing away our hacky sack every time she sees us, she utterly destroys the whole purpose of the club, which is having an active, joyful time with our friends.

Admittedly, hacky sacks, although it's just a sack filled with sand, can be irritating, hearing kicking sounds repeatedly to the students who are trying to work since we were playing on the 4th floor. But at the same time, we are strictly considering where we would play. It's not like we're playing in the classroom or anything! It's not unintentional! We played on the 4th floor hallway so it wouldn't disrupt the students who are working or having class. We originally were set to play in the 7th floor, but nobody came since it's a tiring walk up the stairs. So we thought about the plaza, but it would just be too hard because nobody ever comes over there either, especially during the morning. So the only place where the students are mainly hanging out is the 4th floor foyer. The director, however, instead, takes it away and leaves us into great state of melancholy.

This isn't the purpose of clubs. Nor is it respectful. Not only did the director steal MY hacky sack, she also stole SEVERAL of them last year just because I was HOLDING my hacky sack. She needs to understand that it's not all about whether it's an outside sport or something else. It's about being social and meeting new people who, in turn, might teach new tricks. And the only way implement this is to play on the 4th floor foyer, the homeland of creating lasting and joyful friendships.

batman

I woke up this morning prepared for school, like usual. I decided to wear my batman shirt today. I headed out and saw one of my friends. He was wearing a batman shirt too (although different brand, the design has a batman logo on it). What coincidence? Or again... a foreshadowing of something? BAH! whatever.

Thursday, October 14, 2010

coincidence?

Is it just a complete coincidence? Or a supernatural foreshadowing? Because whatever I thought about today, all happened. This morning at school, I was predicting that the teacher wouldn't be here. And she wasn't... for 10 minutes. But regardless, she didn't come on time, you know? And also I was guessing that a friend would wear a specific shirt today... and he wore that exact shirt. I was predicting a fire drill would happen in the middle of class, and it happened. Has life, for me, become such a daily routine that I've gotten used to what would happen? Or is it just a naturalistic coincidence? Does this mean something? Is there a moral here? A foreshadowing?

XC

Today was a cross country meet. My first time, which was a few weeks ago, was 26:50 minutes. My best so far is 23 minutes. Today, it was about the same: 23 minutes. I came in 20th place out of like 50. Not bad, but I know I could've done better.

Ahhh darn it school starts tomorrow. The four day weekend seemed really short. I thought I had more time in my hands. Great, now I gotta wake up early again tomorrow.

Monday, October 11, 2010

As some of you guys may or may not know, several months ago my Tae Kwon Do instructor who taught me for more than 12 years suddenly left the school, saying that he needed a change. Life goes on and he's planning to start off fresh. Never have I heard from him since, but today he mailed me and kept in touch with me. I'm glad that he's doing fine over there and hope to see more of him in the future.

Ah! Nothing but a beautiful Columbus day to go out for a little jog.... Until it rained tonight! Not only is it rain, but it's like mini hail/ice beads with thunder on top. It's gonna take a while for this storm to abate. I better keep working now.

Today I went to the Knick's Open Practice. The players played some scrimmages and went through some fundamentals. It's like a regular ol' practice, with some additional wheelchair basketball (New York Rollin' Knicks), performances by both the Knick's City Dancers and the Knick's City Kids, and other stuff. Amare Stoudemire and his crew did some superb dunks and three pointers. Can't wait for the regular season to begin.
Next up, was GOGOCURRY! I ate a Katsu Curry. It was goood. After that I went to the JAPAN AND KOREA BLOCK FESTIVAL to get me some pork. The fair had a wide variety of Japanese and Korean food like Bibimbap, Tako, etc.
BTW, today is 10/10/10. A great day to make a wish. But wait, try to make the wish on either 10:10 AM or PM to make it exact.

Imagine

In honor of John Lennon's 70th birthday, hundreds gathered around Strawberry Fields to sing along to numerous Beatles songs like there's no tomorrow. It was a memorable moment for the people; for John especially. We dedicate this to you and continue to imagine a world of Peace.

four day weekend

The four day weekend is finally here! YES!
But the PSAT's are in a couple of days! NOOOO!
So like, I have to study. NOOOOOOO!
But I can catch up on my sleep! YES!
haha.

the night before the morning after.

Here I am at school, enjoying lunch break.
My friends and I have discussing what time we all slept the night before yesterday. Because you see, we had this intense history project that took us roughly all night. Currently, Nic holds the record, stood up until 5AM. I was up until 3:30AM. The morning after, first period Bio, most of the classmates were dead asleep. And I had a presentation to present and most of them weren't paying attention. That's how intense it was.

Now since it's all over, everyone is kind of relaxed. But not too relaxed because work is continuously being assigned. But we're all glad that the history thing is done. I miss the summer.

Cold Day

Why is today so cold? Yes, it's fall, but the temperature just immediately dropped down. It's like 54F today. During XC practice, I was freakin' shivering (also because it was lightly raining). Tomorrow is a meet, even though there's a slight chance of rain. Boy am I going to enjoy that. Tomorrow's another day. See y'all later.

AYOOO!
So busy lately. Too much work, quizzes, homework, tests, blah! Anyway, since I have a tiny bit of time in my hands, I felt like posting a blog.

In school, Sam (the student who's sleeping on the bench in the previous post)and I, have introduced the Hacky Sack club; a place to just chill out and have fun! We're looking forward to it. Plus, the Cross Country team is having its second meet tomorrow. Here's a picture of me with the warmup uniform. BTW, the race is 3.1 miles in total.

Another day. Just came back from school. Kinda tired. The cross country team, which I'm in, is voting for the captains. We have like 12 runners in all. Each person votes for two people. This is just like elections. I wonder who'll win. Maybe me? Who knows!Aight, gotta start my hw.

sleep is essential in life (especially for us)

FINALLY! The weekend! Like one of my friends said, "It's really incredible how one week of school can make us extremely exhausted". DITTO! I wish school had nap time; a time where all student can rest (believe it or not, sleeping for just 20min can stimulate our thinking). So we should have that. Here's Sam, hogging the entire bench just so he can take a nap (who knows? maybe he's napping so he can "think"). But unlikely. HAHA. Nah, but in all seriousness, we're all just tired as fu**.

Tornado

;aoisfkjlda;sjlkdf
TOOO MUCH WORK! I'm tired! The first week of school hasn't even ended yet and I'm exhausted. By the way, there was a rare tornado-like storm that hit the city today, right after I arrived home. I feel lucky to not get soaked. But unfortunately, since the tornado had 100mph winds, several people have lost their lives.
Ok I have to work now.

Schools started today and I'm completely not adjusted yet. Too many hard things! Well, kinda, not really. But anyway, it's just tough. I got loads of homework on the first day, which sucks. But expected. s'now, i'm just about to go ahead and blaze through my homework .

All from yesterday 。。

I forgot to mention yesterday... Let us never forgot our fallen heroes, who have lost their lives defending our freedom during the 9/11 attack. We shall never forget them for eternity.

Okay, so now. I mean yesterday... (god, there's so many things I did yesterday)I went to Art in the Park at 8th street. It's basically a place where local or traveling artists reserve a square palette to paint or draw whatever they like. It spans the whole entire block. All of them were great! One of my mom's friends painted one and it looks awesome.

Also I saw a pet shop on the way back and it was too funny/cute that I had to film it.

yesterday I went to the US Open to see several matches. One was the men's single quarterfinals. Youzhny won that. Now he faces Nadal in the semifinals, while Federer faces Djokovic. One of the women's matches are V. Williams vs. Clijsters. Here are some pictures from the US Open. Oh, and the first picture is dinner from yesterday that mom made.
