Hawai'i

Finally home from the aloha state, yesterday morning. What a long trip-- Connecting flights sure are hectic. My mom and I missed our second flight from Dallas to NY because the first one landed a tad late. Eventually, though, we were able to get safely back home.

Now, Honolulu was a blast. Going in the crystal blue ocean was refreshing, although not much waves to bodyboard; had great Kaki Gori (shaved ice), although didn't have a chance to go to the north shore to stop by Matsumoto's :(; had awesome ahi poki; was taught an extremely helpful private ukulele lesson from Bruce Shimabukuro, the brother of the widely known ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro; saw a lot of hot asian girls, including the locals with their sagging bikinis; walked down the streets of Waikiki; shopped 'till I dropped at Ala Moana (not really); feasted on loco moco; got a nice tan, almost to the point where I can say that I'm as tan as Kona coffee; spent hours at Kailua beach; snorkeled at Hanauma bay, although did not quite see that many tropical fish; saw my mom's friend that told us that he found a pair of perfect fitting shorts that somehow fell from someone's terrace one floor up-- he wore them when we met and he did not lie; bought essentials and gifts at the typical ABC Stores; and last but not least, bought a beautifully and lovingly handcrafted ukulele made in Hawaii.

I've been here 4 times, and each time I come here I feel real happy. First and foremost, I cannot overstate the wide variety of asian delights here. You got your food-- go to a grocery store or deli and you'd find onigiri and/or spam, no doubt. And hey, the Shirokiya food court is packed with delicious bento from takoyaki to negitoro! Everything here, well, everything meaning around Waikiki, is all written in Japanese. English is the main language here, but in some cases, it seems that Japanese is the second most spoken language. That is awesome!

Anyways, I had a real great time. The next day, though, which was today, I had to attend cram school-- sucks, I know, regarding the jetlag and all that other crap. But sometime's things gotta happen, and now is the time. Here I am now sitting in my room, back to reality, listening to the construction across the street when I was just at Waikiki Beach working on a tan while listening to the waves crash by the shore. Where was I? I feel.
